2010 ASWA Convention Registration

Dear Colleagues,

Details have been finalized for the 39th annual Alabama Sports Writers Association convention less than a month from now.

The dates for this year are June 6 and 7. We once again will be headquartered at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Birmingham ( 201 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd ). Room rates again are very reasonable at $105 each. Online registration is available on our Web site (alabamasportswriters.com).

We will hold our Sunday registration, kickoff luncheon and seminars at UAB (Green & Gold Room/Bartow Arena) Once again, we will have a high school seminar at the hospitality room at the Sheraton for our prep writers, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with lunch beginning at noon. The seminars will start at 1:30 p.m.

The Sunday night reception again will be held at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Athletes of the Year Banquet is set for 7 p.m. at the Sheraton's Birmingham Ballroom.

Our annual "Sandbaggers" Golf Classic will be held on Monday at Inverness Golf Course. Breakfast is at 9 a.m. and golf begins at 10 a.m. The golf awards cookout will follow the tournament.

In addition to your room at the Sheraton, your expense for the trip will include being a member in good standing (i.e having paid your dues) and the convention fee. Both are $25 before the convention starts. Registration fees go up to $30 the day of the convention. Those fees can be mailed at any time to ASWA, c/o Jacksonville State Sports Information, 700 Pelham Road North , Jacksonville , Al. 36265.

Please register now so we can get a good handle on how many are coming and how many will be playing golf.

We had a great crowd last year at the Sheraton, especially for our Sunday night awards banquet, and hope for even bigger participation this year. As most of you know, these two days provide a great chance to catch up with colleagues, old friends, athletes and statewide coaches and athletic officials on a mostly off-deadline basis for a change.
